Drive Wright Driving School Loughborough
On average a learner driver starting from scratch with no previous experience, not gaining any practice with family with or friends will need approximately 40-45 hours of tuition. This is obviously an average and varies between individuals and whether there has been any previous experience or ongoing practice. It helps greatly to have frequent lessons.
Theory Test
The first and foremost requirement of studying for the theory test is to thoroughly read the ‘Highway Code’. This is available from all good bookshops, petrol stations and some post offices currently priced £2.50.
The pupil would normally be expected to study for the theory test during their first few hours of tuition and to take the theory test between the first third to a half of their course of tuition.
There is now a second part of the theory test called the ‘Hazard Perception’ test. This is a series of video clips and you click the mouse when you see a hazard that you would have to take action on.
The DVD ‘Driving Test Success – All Tests’ is strongly recommended as a learning aid and covers both parts of the theory test.
The current price of the theory test is £30 and the pass mark is 43 out of 50 for the theory questions and 44 out of 75 for the hazard perception part.
You must take both parts of your driving licence and your letter of confirmation with you when you take the test. To sample the official DSA Theory Test Questions.
The Practical Test
The practical driving test has developed a great deal over the last few years. The standard required to pass is now much higher than previously expected. A learner has to demonstrate that they can deal safely with all types of driving and traffic situations.
There is normally quite a long waiting list for the practical test which can vary between 4 and 16 weeks depending on the time of year and test centre being used. The current price of the practical test is £56.50 and you will be advised when to book your test.
The normal situation for the day of the test is to have an hours lesson before the test which equates to a normal two hour session. It is also acceptable if you prefer to take the test in your own vehicle.
There is a new part to the practical test called the ‘Show me, Tell me’ which is a series of questions conducted at the beginning of the test before you drive away.
When you have booked a test you will be sent a confirmation letter, you must take this letter with you on the practical test along with your theory test certificate and both parts of your driving licence.
Show Me, Tell Me Test
For this part of the test you will be required to carry out basic safety checks on your vehicle. In order to pass you will need to answer two questions correctly.
